Maskanoo: A TCI Holiday Tradition

Maskanoo: A TCI Holiday Tradition

December 05, 2017

Have yourself a beautiful white sand Christmas this year in Turks and Caicos Islands, where you can experience all the abounding holiday cheer without any of the dreaded holiday chill. The day after Christmas, Boxing Day, is a particular favorite here in Providenciales, where locals and visitors from across the islands come together for “Maskanoo,” a communal celebration held every year in the Regent Grand shopping area and Saltmills Plaza in Grace Bay. The name of the event, Maskanoo, is a portmanteau of “masquerade” and “Junkanoo,” a Bahaman street festival that’s now migrated to other parts of the Caribbean. You’ll enjoy live, local bands, an elaborate street parade, delicious TCI cuisine from area vendors, arts and crafts sales, and all the quirky and delightful specialty shops that make the neighborhood such a vibrant attraction. So mark your calendars for December 26, and give yourself the the gift of authentic Turks & Caicos community this holiday season.
